T400 Controller Facilities Manual
667/EB/20200/000 Page 25-3 Issue 9
Red Lamp Monitor Operation
1. The voltage monitor transformer measures the actual voltage on the signals, to
allow the current readings to be tracked against actual voltage.
2. The Ancillary processor assesses if a lamp failure has occurred, and counts the
number of failures against each colour and phase.
3. The lamp failure information is sent to the T400 over the extended system bus. The
T400 then takes this lamp failure indication and compares it to the configuration
and takes the appropriate action.
Lamp failures occurring whilst the lamp is illuminated, and after the expiry of an
additional 500mS delay at start of illumination of the red, will be acted upon within
500mS.
Lamp failures that occur while the lamp is not been powered or that occur during
the first 500mS that the lamp is powered, will be acted upon within one second
from the start of the lamp being powered.
The additional 500mS delay at the start of a red period is to ensure that all surges
have reduced to an acceptable level (as discussed at the 141 meeting on the
16/5/95).
4. The T400 lamp faults can be sent to the central office by an OTU (either integral or
free-standing).
25.1.1(b) Lamp Monitor (Integral)
To detect bulb failures and report to other manufacturers’ OTU’s and UTC Systems.
25.1.1(c) OTU (Integral)
To provide an Outstation Transmission Unit for use in a TC12 Data Transmission
System. This may also incorporate the functions of LMU and RLM.
Note: the OTU function of this Ancillary Processor is not required for LMU or RLM,
but it is capable of carrying out this function as well, although the Integral OTU is not
currently BABT approved for use in the UK.
